Dr. Michael Johnson
A Paducah boy, the only child of Fred and Betty Johnson, graduated from Murray State University in 1981 and from Auburn School of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. I met my wife, Alita, while at Murray and we were married in 1982. After Auburn I went to Orlando, FL where I practiced for 2 ½ years Howell Branch Animal Hospital under the direction of Dr. Ken Acre. He was, and still is, a great man.
We wanted to settle our family in a place where our kids would grow up with the same values that we did. We wanted to be close to our parents and families as well. As we started looking for the right place, I learned that Mansfield Animal Hospital was for sale. I remembered Dr. Mansfield as one of my clinical instructors at Auburn. He was really tough and never complimented anyone unless they had done somthing really special. The thing that had stayed in my memory was how he repeatedly lamented his decision to leave Hopkinsville for a teaching position at Auburn. I knew that if this hard to please guy loved Hopkinsville then it must be a really great place. Over 25 years have passed and I can't argue with the man!
Lindsey is a unique story. She started working here as a CCHS co-op student and we refused to let her go. She has been with Mansfield Animal hospital 6 years and is skilled in all areas. She is currently going to school so we only have her part time but she is a skilled phlebotomist, surgical tech, and is proficient in radiology as well.
She and her family have taken so many orphaned and abused pets home that I consider her to be a modern day Ellie Mae Clampet.
Matt is a fantastic employee. He has known the Johnson family for most of his life and we are lucky to have such a capable young man join our practice. Matt has never really owned pets, although he played with everybody elses at every opportunity. Now he has taken Scratch, a injured kitten that we nursed back to health. While Matt is currently our chief lab tech, he has mastered all jobs and is essential to our team.
Rachel is our longest serving staff member. She began employment in 1999 and today is our surgical and radiology adminstration. When not performing maintance or operating in these areas she helps Dr. Johnson as his most experienced assistant. Rachel enjoys line dancing and has season tickets at the Western KY Fairgrounds for the demolition derby. She has 10 pets, most of which have gone home from the clinic after various hard luck stories or abandonment landed them here.
Shelly is one of the receptionists at Mansfield Animal Hospital. She first came to work back in the summer of 1998. Shelly states "what drew me to work here is the love I have for animals. I never get tired of seeing what new creatures might walk through the door, meeting the owners is a plus too. I love hearing the stories of how fate brought them and their pets together. In the fall of 2006 I left to go home and take care of my three kids. When it was time for me to go back to work, I couldn't picture working anywhere else, so in February 2009 I came back hoping Dr. Johnson had a place for me and luckily he did. He is wonderful to work for and I couldn't imagine taking my pets, 3 dogs and 2 cats, anywhere else."
Candice began working here in February of 2008. She is related to or knows everyone in the world. Seriously! She is another excellent technical mind, she operates our desk and software with ease and is invaluable to our operations. She learns quickly so anything I don't want to do I make her do it. As a result she knows a lot because I'm pretty lazy. She has Roper, her only dog, and she also owns several horses. She is mostly on our reception desk and is proficient at most tasks in the clinic.
Jenny is our newest and most popular staff member. She started in 2012 and has a lot of dog training experience as well as having run her own business for many years. She is not full time because she works for Dr. Nunn as well. She is our receptionist on Fridays and Saturdays and fills in odd days when she has time. She has been in the boarding and veterinary business for years and is very knowledgable. Make sure to meet her !!
